FAQs

Answers to the questions people ask most.

Everything about scanning, accuracy, privacy and the community — in plain language.

Getting started

Do I need an account to scan?

No. You can scan files, URLs, domains and IPs without registering. An optional free account simply lets you keep a private history and follow samples you care about.

Is SpyApp really free?

Yes — core scanning is free for everyone. Paid plans add real-time monitoring, larger history, and priority analysis, but they are never required to get a verdict.

What can I submit?

Files (executables, documents, archives, mobile installer metadata), full URLs, bare domains and IP addresses. If it can carry or point to spyware, you can check it.

Detection & accuracy

How is the spyware/malware score calculated?

It combines how many detection engines flagged the sample, the severity of the observed behaviour, the reputation of any linked domains, and community votes. The full breakdown is always visible.

Can it find stalkerware on my phone directly?

Our scanner analyses any installer or file you can export, and our Android and iPhone guides walk you through the on-device signs of monitoring apps step by step.

What does a low score mean — am I safe?

A low score means we found little or no evidence of malicious behaviour in what you submitted. It is reassuring, but no scanner is infallible; always combine it with good security habits.

Why might a legitimate file get flagged?

Some legitimate tools use techniques (like remote access or background monitoring) that overlap with spyware. That is exactly why we show the detail and let the community vote, so context is preserved.

Privacy & data

Do you store the files I upload?

Submissions are processed to generate a verdict and may be retained to improve detection and serve historical results, as described in our privacy policy. We never sell your personal data.

Can other people see what I scan?

Scan results contribute to a public threat database, but they are tied to file hashes and indicators — not to your identity. Do not upload files containing personal secrets you would not want analysed.

How do I request deletion?

Use the contact page to request removal of a submission you control. We respond to verified requests in line with applicable data-protection law.

Community

How does voting work?

On any result page you can vote whether the sample is spyware/malware or a false positive. Votes are aggregated and feed back into the score, with safeguards against manipulation.

Can I comment on a scan?

Yes. Each result page has a comment thread, so analysts and everyday users can share what they observed — much like a public lab notebook.
